Nothing Personal considers pitches for essays, criticism, reporting, interviews, and short observations, as well as photography. We’re interested in close attention, independent judgment, and a voice that belongs to its writer. The subject need not be extraordinary. The attention should be.
Send a concise account of the piece you propose: what you intend to explore, what you already know, and what remains to be found out. For reported work, include the people and sources you expect to consult. For personal essays, give us a sense of the writing itself.
Include a brief introduction and a few relevant examples of your work, if available. Read the journal before submitting; it is the most useful introduction we can offer.
Publication, editing, and terms are agreed directly with the editors before an assignment begins.
